What’s YOUR favorite?

One of the most exciting things you will do during your Advent adventure is to decide upon a countdown calendar. There are infinite possibilities from which to choose, both ready made and DIY projects, depending on your level of craftiness and how much time you have on your hands. I made my own with foam holiday shapes…but it was a tad more time consuming than I would recommend. Cute though, right?!?

I have found some super cool ideas while searching through Pinterest, Google, and Etsy – some to inspire creativity…and some to add easily to your “cart” and have express mailed – ready for your little Advent Notes to be tucked inside. I have seen simple felt pocket advent calendars at Walmart and Target for about a dollar, and craft stores like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby frequently sell decorative 3D advent countdown calendars.

Then there are Nativity scene options like these two, where you could take the figurines and use them during the first week while learning about the Christmas Story. Each person in the story will be highlighted and this would be a good way to get the manger scene and other characters.

For those who enjoy working with scrapbook paper, consider turning your Advent Notes into origami envelopes and write the day’s activities on the plain side of holiday scrapbook paper. These sweet envelopes from Gracious Rain even have a “lock!”

If you feel like shelling out some cash, Pottery Barn has some adorable countdown calendars like this one…

I also love this Karen Foster 3D Countown Calendar – to be decorated however you wish! only $14! (on sale at Joanne’s) Think scrapbook paper…decoupage…paint…stickers…stamps…whatever!

The key is to find a countdown calendar that allows you to insert or include Advent Notes in SOME way. You will need to have notes that provide enough room for one or two sentences, which depends on how small you can legibly write (and read, of course). Your imagination is your only limitation, other than that!

Once you have decided on how to make, or where to buy, your Advent Celebration Countdown Calendar – let us know! Share your ideas and experiences with us! If we get some cool ideas and photos, we will share them on the blog to show off your calendar!
